Ailsa of ‘Where’s My Backpack?‘ has been doing a bit of bird-spotting this week. If you would like to join in with her challenge then please do. Everyone is welcome.
The Steller’s Jay is a jay native to western North America, closely related to the Blue Jay found in the rest of the continent, but with a black head and upper body. It is also known as the Long-crested Jay, Mountain Jay, and Pine Jay (Wikipedia)
I was fortunate enough to capture a shot of this one in Sedona, USA. Shame about the messy background.
What a great photo, Jude! 🙂
Thank you Cathy. I love these birds, such a beautiful blue plumage.
I don’t think that background is too messy for a chance shot of a bird. It looks really good, sharp eye, and plumage. Well done Jude.
Regards as always, Pete. X
It was a lucky shot, usually I see a flash of blue out of the corner of my eye and that’s that. We once ‘stalked’ one on Vancouver Island, and every time we tried to get a photo it would fly away!
Oh, what a nice bird. There is no such species in Sweden. To me it looks very exotic. And the messy background goes very well together with the bird’s feet and ‘hair style’.
Thank you for your comment Ninano. We don’t get such blue birds here either. I was lucky that this one came into the garden of the B&B we were staying in for peanuts, so I was able to get a few shots of him.
Stunning shot.
Thanks Lynne 🙂
Wow!!! Excellent capture, Jude!
Thanks Amy 🙂
