Ailsa is feeling fragrant this week. “The sense of smell is perhaps the most evocative of all the senses, so get ready to heighten olfactory perception and show me your most aromatic photos.. ” If you would like to join in (everyone’s welcome!) click here:
Here are some of my aromatic photos – all from the streets of San Francisco
For some reason, I am really getting the Bread, and the Crab, though not at the same time, fortunately!
Great shots as always Jude, and a good reason to go to ‘Frisco!
Regards from Norfolk, Pete. x
There is NOTHING like the smell of crab and sourdough in Fisherman’s Wharf Pete. NOTHING!! Well, except maybe the sea lions on Pier 39, but they are not very fragrant 😦
I do miss the smell of a nice cigar though…
Oh my goodness! We were in San Francisco recently and I ate at The Stinking Rose. I almost used a photo of that and I also indulged more than once in just a few days at Cowgirl Creamery and Acme Bakery at the Ferry Building. The first day at Acme, I stood for a long time just inhaling!! What a marvelous fragrance!

I spent hours in the Ferry Building photographing the shops and smelling all the scents. A great place!
I’ll go for the cheese, the stinkier the better…. Stinking Bishop, anyone? 🙂
I’ve never eaten Stinking Bishop, but I have smelled it in my local cheese shop – they have to wash the board and cutter after serving it!
Like most smelly cheeses, it tastes better than it smells, and interestingly it varies according to the season (at the local cheese shop, they said the flavour varied according to what the cows ate)…. 🙂
What a great collection of aromas, Jude. The places are colorful and quirky as well. My favorites are the Stinking Rose and Mario’s Bohemian Cigar Store. 🙂
They do garlic ice-cream too! Not sure about that.
what a great selection…love the “Stinking Rose”…what a great name
