Poppy Head Pews, Norfolk
as it so happened I had been photographing the backs of these hand-carved pews in the churches of North Norfolk. My main reason was the poppy heads themselves, but then I noticed that the backs of the pews are intricately carved too.

Looks like you have been in more Norfolk churches than I have Jude! Nice idea, and it goes well with your theme. Regards, Pete.
Just lucky that this was the theme, I also have another photo that I might post which fits in quite well – another Norfolk shot! The churches are quite beautiful, so light and airy and they don’t smell as musty as many churches I have been in. I am an atheist or possibly an humanist (my OH is just confusing me at the moment) but love the architecture and history of church and monastic buildings.
Even the pictures feel spiritual~ Great job!
Thank you 🙂
CAn you imagine how many years it took to build something like this? Beautiful photos!
Thanks Rider, I am always in awe of the creation of these old buildings.
Usually pews are so plain, Jude, so these are a real find. Great photos. 🙂
Thanks Cathy, they were very interesting. I think I went around photographing every one!
Such beautiful church benches! Great photos.
Thanks Janaline!
How beautiful, I was brought up in a parish with a modern church and horribly uncomfortable modern pews – ugly, too. These are just gorgeous. Great take on the theme.
Thanks! They are beautiful, but I don’t know how comfortable 🙂
Wow, those are just breathtakingly beautiful. Such opulence and elegance!
Thank you Marianne.
WOW! These are really beautiful! Nice job. 🙂
Thank you 🙂
Very nice. Someone’s been working hard to make these.
They certainly did, sadly a lot of the original ones were damaged in the Reformation, but you can find Victorian reproductions – I think they are all extraordinarily beautiful.
