: The face of a naiad on a fountain in the English Garden, Geneva

This fountain was built in 1862 by the Parisian sculptor Alexis André. The superposed basins are supported by Naiades.

THE NAIADES were fresh-water Nymphs who inhabited the rivers, streams, lakes, marshes, fountains and springs of the earth. They were immortal, minor divinities who were invited to attend the assemblies of the gods on Mount Olympos.

Portsmouth to Waterloo

In the recent snowstorm, January 2010, the line between Portsmouth and London Waterloo was transformed into a picturesque track. Few trains were running and it was lovely and peaceful.

An interesting phenomenon: we were puzzled by what looked like flares or fireworks lighting the sky at night, only to realize that the light was caused by sparks from the track when a train passed by.

Paddling madly to keep warm

The pond was rapidly freezing over and this solitary goose was going round in circles trying to keep the opening clear. Taken at the Mill Pond, Haslemere, W.Sussex on Wednesday 6th January 2010.

Oh so typical picture of a little robin with his chest puffed out. This was taken in November 2008 during a snowstorm in York, North Yorkshire, UK.

Magic Trees

Golden Glow

These trees always have Christmas lights in them, but with the snow and the reflection from the yellow street-lights, it looked more amazing than usual.

The rather poor quality of the photo is due to the fact that it is actually snowing, and also it was a very l….ong exposure, but it was an interesting scene.
